The University Community Academy is a charter school formed in partnership with the Atlanta University Center institutions (Clark Atlanta University, Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse College and Morehouse School of Medicine, Spelman College, and Morris Brown College).  Additional partners included West End community, parents in the surrounding neighborhoods and Atlanta Public Schools.

The school opened in August 2002 for Grades K-5 and expanded to Grade 7 in August 2004.  As of August 2005, the school served Grades  pre-K-8 and will remain that way as approved by the State Board of Education. All students residing within the Atlanta Public Schools attendance zone are invited to enroll; currently the school serves 400 students. Students are required to wear a uniform of Hunter green shirt or blouse, khaki pants, shorts, skirt, or jumper, and brown leather tie shoes.

University Community Academy seeks to create a learning environment that allows students to excel academically, psychologically, socially and physically.  We believe that all students can learn and most can excel.  We instill a thirst for knowledge in our students, provide continued staff development, take tremendous measures to include parents in their children’s educational advancement, and include the community in creating and maintaining a successful institution of learning.
